Tax on distributed profits

VAT

VAT is 24%, with reduced rates for items such as accommodation, books and medicines. Registration is required once turnover exceeds €40,000 a year; returns are monthly.

Employers

Employers withhold income tax and pay social tax of 33% of gross salary, plus unemployment insurance, reported monthly on form TSD.

Payments abroad and the global minimum tax

Royalties paid to non-residents carry 10% withholding; dividends to foreign companies generally carry none. Related-party transactions must be at arm's length. Groups with revenue of €750 million or more are subject to the global minimum tax at 15%.
